The Grand Canadian Cafe

Our all-time bestselling dish, The American, is officially retiring.

Yep after 10 whole years— it’s no more! But don’t panic, because something even better is stepping into the spotlight. As Canada’s noisy neighbours look to challenge their identity, we thought it was time to give a proper standing ovation to the real star of the show.

In honour of the ingredient that’s been the backbone of Where The Pancakes Are since 2017 we’re here to make a fuss about our real Canadian maple syrup, imported from Quebec with ZERO added tariffs.

Tapped from sugar maple trees across a cooperative of family-run farms in Quebec, this isn’t your average syrup. These maple trees only start yielding sap when they hit a very respectable 75 years old. It’s slow, patient, and rooted in generations of tradition — and it’s been at the heart of so many of our most-loved dishes so we figured — why not give it the title it truly deserves?

Introducing… The Canadian!
Formerly known as The American, this is everything you already loved — just more proudly maple, and to celebrate this certified rebrand, we’re dedicating our Charlotte Street restaurant to it.

Say hello to: The Grand Canadian Café.
It’s our new concept dedicated entirely to The Canadian in all its glorious forms. Not quite a Wes Anderson movie (though it is charming), it’s a fuss-free, laid back place to catch up with friends and watch the world go by. Choose from our Swaledale sourced streaky bacon, vegan bratwurst, halloumi with either blueberries or bananas, and of course, accompanied with that 100% Canadian maple syrup.

We’lll be taking walk-ins only with opening hours from 8am-3pm to satisfy pancake cravings all day. Plus, if you’re in the mood for something a little sweeter, you’ll still find our beloved menu favourites like The Simple — with toppings like lemon & sugar, almond butter & banana, maple syrup, ice-cream, or rich chocolate sauce accompanied by a lengthy list of refreshing iced and hot drinks.

So come down to Charlotte Street and help us give The Canadian the spotlight it deserves.

Location / local tips

The Grand Canadian Cafe by WTPA is next door to Tottenham Court Road and Oxford street (with its shopping galore), but the area is so much more than window-shopping on the high street. Check out some of our recommendations below:

  • The British Museum is nearby at walking distance. It’s always been glorious and has undergone some serious rejuvenation works. Even nearer and much smaller, check out the The Cartoon Museum just a brisk 7 minute walk down the road, perfect for keeping the kids entertained.
  • If you are visiting town, or just need a one-night break from daily routines, The Charlotte Street HotelThe London Edition Hotel or The Sanderson are iconic places to stay and experience the heart of London in blissful tranquillity.
  • This is not quite a tip, but worth pointing out. The area stretching from Fitzrovia into Bloomsbury is heaving with illustrious universities, libraries and centres of scientific research. It must be, besides the presence of many creative local businesses, the reason why this patch of London is so diverse and brimming with energy and curiosity.
